RGE Chairman Sukanto Tanoto was in Davos to attend the annual World Economic Forum, held 20-23 Jan, 2016. He participated in a closed door panel discussion on protection-production partnerships, and emphasised the positive impact of well-managed lands.

In his sharing, he highlighted APRIL Group's diligent and multiprong efforts at protection-production partnerships. The pulp and paper producer has been working the ground, while engaging many stakeholders in NGOs, government and communities to champion a common cause in sustainability.

He shared how APRIL Group's ring concept plantation has significantly reduced the risk of illegal encroachment and illegal fires, while the creation of economic zones outside the high conservation value (HCV) forests has not only served to empower and enrich communities but also provided a protective buffer for the HCV forests.

Well-managed lands involve the consideration and action in many focus areas - community, environment, economy, areas and interests of which APRIL Group seeks to balance.

The respected business leader Sukanto Tanoto was also sought by the media for his views on the global outlook, as well as Indonesia's and ASEAN's prospects during slow growth.
