On 6 November 2014, the Singapore Institute of International Affairs (SIIA) convened the SIIA's Haze Roundtable titled "Beyond Awareness: Growing Ground-up Initiatives" where over 40 academics, corporate and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) representatives from Indonesia and Malaysia gathered in Singapore to discuss solutions to the ongoing issue of haze.
29 October 2014 – Sateri announced that it has entered into a sale and purchase agreement to sell its viscose staple fiber (“VSF”) business in China. Upon completion of the transaction, Sateri will be a leading global pure-play dissolving wood pulp producer. It will focus on further strengthening its dissolving wood pulp business, particularly in the specialty grade segment.
Asia Symbol’s "Realize Your Dreams" first graduation ceremony was held on 5 November 2014 at the premises of Asia Symbol (Shandong) Pulp Co., Ltd. The “Realise Your Dreams” program was launched in 2011 to provide under-privileged students free university education and employment upon graduation. This program is an initiative of RGE Chairman, Mr Sukanto Tanoto, who is passionate about creating greater educational opportunities for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Development of agri business in Indonesia is still being challenged by the low welfare of smallholders, even when these smallholders are the front liners of the industry who contribute to the country’s national income. One of the ways to increase smallholders’ welfare is to develop a partnership between them and the companies, which has been done by the palm oil industry in Indonesia.
On October 24, the award ceremony of the “Reading Festival - Asia Symbol Trophy” to promote reading among primary and middle school students under the theme of “upholding the Chinese literary culture and fulfilling the Chinese dream together” was held in Rizhao, China.
On 14 October 2014, the 2nd Woodfibre LNG Telephone Town Hall was held, where participants listened in and asked questions of the Woodfibre LNG team. This is one of the many activities that Woodfibre LNG, an arm of the RGE Group’s Pacific Oil & Gas company, has held to engage with the local community to understand their interests, issues and concerns about the development of the proposed natural gas liquefaction and export facility, located approximately seven kilometres southwest of Squamish, British Columbia, Canada.
