APRIL Encourages Sustainable Forestry Practices

Sukanto Tanoto, the Indonesian businessman and philanthropist who founded and now heads the RGE Group of natural resources manufacturing companies, puts great emphasis on practices that foster conservation. One of the companies under the RGE umbrella, Asia Pacific Resources International Limited (APRIL), is among the world’s foremost producers of paper products, fiber, and wood pulp. In fact, the largest pulp and paper mill currently operating worldwide is the APRIL facility in Riau Province on the island of Sumatra.

Sateri Focuses on Viscose Staple Fiber and Specialty Pulp Segments

In the announcement of the unaudited results for the six months ended June 2014, Sateri Holdings Limited reported increased revenue despite declining product prices, as operations were ramped-up at the new viscose staple fiber (VSF) plant in Fujian, China, which commenced production in December 2013. With three of the four production lines of the new Fujian VSF plant now in operation, Sateri is now focused on two products – VSF and specialty-grade dissolving wood pulp (DWP), thereby reducing exposure to market price fluctuations in the rayon-grade DWP market.

Tanoto Foundation’s Gift to Advance Research in Cardiovascular Medicine

The National Heart Research Institute Singapore (NHRIS) was launched by President Tony Tan at the SingHealth Duke-NUS Scientific Congress 2014, which is a platform to showcase the latest medical developments. This new research institute is a collaboration between the National Heart Centre Singapore and Duke-National University Singapore (NUS), and it will focus on research themes such as blood vessel functions, genetics and metabolic heart diseases.
